At least 11 people were hospitalized Saturday following a possible boat explosion at Haulover Beach north of Miami. Due to the number of injured victims requiring treatment, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue declared a “Level 2 Mass Casualty Incident.” Officials have not yet released details about the victims’ conditions. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.

What we know so far
Emergency crews responded around 12:50 p.m. to reports of a possible explosion west of Haulover Beach Marina in Miami. Upon arrival, responders found multiple injured individuals, prompting an immediate escalation to a Level 2 Mass Casualty Incident to mobilize additional resources.
Injuries and response
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) initially reported that 15 people were transported to hospitals, but later clarified that 11 patients were ultimately admitted for treatment.
Injuries reportedly ranged from minor wounds to burns, with some victims also sustaining traumatic injuries.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Juan Arias told Fox 2 Detroit that patients suffered “from burn injuries to some traumatic injuries as well.”
In a press release, MDFR said, “As we’re in the midst of boating season, we want to remind our community to always prioritize safety while out on the water.”
MDFR reminded boaters to prioritize safety during the busy boating season, urging operators to ensure vessels are equipped with working fire extinguishers and required safety gear.
“Make sure your vessel is equipped with a working fire extinguisher and all required safety equipment. Before departure, perform a thorough safety check to ensure your boat is in good working condition and free of potential hazards. Taking a few extra precautions can help prevent emergencies and keep everyone safe,” MDFR said in the press release.
Investigation ongoing
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the reported explosion.
