TAMPA, Fla. (WLFA) — One person was killed Friday night when a fire broke out at a storage facility in Tampa, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said.

Calls began coming in just after 8:30 p.m., reporting a fire at the Public Storage on North 56th Street.

Units encountered heavy fire coming from the facility, and worsening conditions led crews to transition to a defensive position.

HCFR said a second alarm was called to bring more units to the scene, and firefighters had the flames under control in around two hours.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated on scene, HCFR said, but one civilian death was confirmed.

Fire Rescue did not release any additional information about the victim or the circumstances around their death.
