TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Local letter carriers are picking up deliveries across the nation and in the Big Bend community on Saturday to fight food insecurity.
Second Harvest of the Big Bend partnered with USPS to collect bins of food across multiple locations. Kristie Teal with Second Harvest said these services are crucial, as many families may not know where their next meal is coming from.
The single-day food drive is the largest across the nation, according to officials. Local carriers picked up food from homes in the community.
Over the last 30 years, officials with the National Association of Letter Carriers said they have collected nearly 2 billion pounds of food.
