Here are the area’s top high school sports performers for May 8. Top performers are based on the results sent in by the coaches.
BASEBALL
Gavin Holmes, East Duplin: The junior went 3-for-3 with a double and run in a 3-2 loss in nine innings to Roanoke Rapids.
Andrew Houston, Jacksonville: The senior went 2-for-4 with two runs in a 3-1 win at West Brunswick.
Jonathan Pittman, Jacksonville: The senior allowed just two hits, no earned runs, walked one and struck out four in seven innings and was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
SOFTBALL
Claire Taylor, Croatan: The junior was 1-for-3 and struck out three in four innings in a 1-0 loss to West Carteret.
Zoe Turner, East Duplin: The senior scattered eight hits, allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out six in nine innings in a 2-1 win over First Flight.
Molly McSorley, Lejeune: The junior was 2-for-2 with an RBI in a 11-1 loss to Manteo.
Jenna Banks, White Oak: The sophomore was 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run in a 9-6 loss to J.H. Rose.
Alyssa Carkhuff, White Oak: The senior was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs.
Emily Pollard, White Oak: The sophomore was 2-for-4.
Avery Sise, White Oak: The junior was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
