Authorities are investigating a fire that damaged two cars and a building.

Jacksonville firefighters responded about 5:46 p.m. Sunday to North Main and East Wolcott streets for a report of heavy black smoke and a possible vehicle fire.

Firefighters and police arrived to find a car on fire and cars parked both in front and behind it, according to Jacksonville Fire Department Chief Matt Summers.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but not before it damaged one of the neighboring vehicles and caused some smoke discoloration on the outside of the nearby building, he said.

The building’s interior was undamaged.

Jacksonville police are investigating.

“We’re calling it suspicious because there’s no reason we know of that it started,” police Lt. Sean Walker said.
