Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia is speaking at a news conference in Miami-Dade County on Friday regarding government accountability and wasteful spending, according to his office.
Just last month, Ingoglia said he found nearly $190 million in “excessive, wasteful” spending in Broward County.
According to Ingoglia, from 2019 to 2024, Broward’s budget increased by $617 million, a 47.2% increase.
In response to that news conference, county administrator Monica Cepero released a statement that reads:
“Thus far, we have been unable to verify the sources of data used to arrive at these values. For example, neither the population growth nor the inflationary index match commonly used sources, nor can we confirm the correct adopted general fund budget amounts were used in his calculations. The Commission Adopted Budgets for FY20 to FY25 grew by $536 million [$1.923B – $1.387B], which does not align with the ~$618 million referenced by the CFO,” the statement read. “Please note that the numbers presented today by the CFO are not a finding from the DOGE visit in July. No report from that exercise has yet been released.”
