TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team battled in the first round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Monday at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
The Vaqueros carded a first round team score of 299, which puts them in 11th just one shot of Purdue who is ranked No. 41 in the NCAA, and two shots behind North Florida for ninth. UTRGV is ahead of Little Rock by 14 strokes.
Sophomore Zoe Hobbs and Pitchayapa Pungpho led the way for the Vaqueros as they carded a first round one-over par 73. Both Hobbs and Pungpho are tied for 22nd.
Junior Natalia Rodriguez posted a first round 76 as she is tied for 50th. Sophomore Miriam Barcalova is tied for 55thwith a first round 77 and junior Preston Saiz is in 65th with a first round 86.
No. 3 Florida leads after the first round with a first round 283 with host Florida State sitting in second with a first round 284 and Wake Forest is in third with a first round 285. Eastern Michigan’s Janae Leovao holds the individual lead with a four-under 68.
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday with the first groups of the second round teeing off at 12 p.m.
