TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Florida Capital Bureau) – Florida’s waters will soon open for yearly fishers.
On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Florida’s private recreational red snapper season.
The state’s new Exempted Fishing Permit will allow Floridians to fish commercially in state and federal waters.

This gulf season will last 140 days, making it the longest one ever. The governor says this marks the beginning of more growth in the fishing industry.
“In terms of this dramatically expanded season, this is just the beginning. We’re going to expand from there very rapidly, and you’re going to see the Atlantic snapper season mirroring the massive red snapper season we’ve been able to bring to Florida’s Gulf Coast communities,” DeSantis said.
Under this plan, Florida will lead a 39-day Atlantic red snapper season this year. The season will start on May 22.
