The Florida Medical Association PAC is endorsing Republican Jon Maples in his second swing at House District 87, doubling down on the GOP financial planner who narrowly lost the March Special Election in the Palm Beach County seat.
“The Florida Medical Association PAC is pleased to continue their strong support of GOP candidate Jon Maples in House District 87,” FMA PAC President Andrew Borom said. “Maples’ understanding of Florida’s priorities as a businessman and community leader make him uniquely qualified to serve in the Florida House of Representatives.”
Maples said he was honored to have the support.
“Together, we will support pro-patient health policy in Tallahassee that protects the doctor-patient relationship and makes quality healthcare available for every Florida family,” he said.
The endorsement is a re-up. The FMA PAC also backed Maples in the March 24 Special Election to fill the seat vacated by former Republican Rep. Mike Caruso, who resigned in August to become Palm Beach County Clerk and Comptroller. Maples lost that race to Democrat Emily Gregory by roughly 800 votes — the first time this century a Democrat had taken the coastal Palm Beach district, which includes President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago.
Maples re-filed for the November General Election days after the loss, promising a retooled campaign for the rematch against Gregory. He has already secured backing from the Florida House Republican Campaign Committee, Speaker-designate Sam Garrison, and Republican Party of Florida Chair Evan Power.
A Panama City native, financial planner, and former Lake Clarke Shores Town Council member, Maples played basketball at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he was an All-American.
The FMA PAC, established in 1974, calls itself Florida’s No. 1 medical political action committee.
