ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando City Commissioner Tony Ortiz formally filed his candidacy Tuesday for Orlando mayor ahead of the November 2027 election.
Current Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced he will not seek re-election to the office in 2027, leaving the top spot open to a growing field of candidates. Ortiz joins State Rep. Anna Eskamani, who announced in December 2024 that she planned to enter the race, in the nonpartisan election.
Ortiz served in the Marines, as well as an Orlando police officer, before he became a commissioner.
“As the City of Orlando continues to grow and evolve, residents across the city are increasingly focused on the issues that shape everyday life, including housing, affordability, public safety, homelessness, transportation, economic opportunity, and neighborhood stability,” Ortiz wrote in an announcement made available to the press.
Ortiz said that a formal campaign launch would follow the filing in the coming weeks.
