Ground stop issued for certain flights to Tampa International Airport amid storms

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A ground stop has been issued for certain flights heading to Tampa International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA said all departures to Tampa International Airport from the ZMA zone, which includes the southern half of Florida and the Bahamas, would be grounded until 5:15 p.m. EDT.

The airport event advisory said the cause was thunderstorms in the area. There is a 30-60% chance of extension for the ground stop.

As of this report, only 60 out of the 428 flights at Tampa International Airport have been delayed. There have been no cancellations.
