A man from Orlando was arrested during a traffic stop on I-95 after state troopers say he fled and punched a trooper in the face.According to the Florida Highway Patrol, it happened on Monday morning just before 6 a.m. on the southbound side of I-95 at mile marker 166, near St. Johns Heritage Parkway.FHP says one of their troopers was patrolling in the area when they noticed a white 2007 Ford Transit van weaving in the center lane and nearly colliding with a semi-truck.The trooper then pulled the van over and says 7 men immediately ran out of the passenger side of the van and fled into the woods.One of the men, later identified as 18-year-old Luis Angel Gomez Lopez of Orlando, allegedly attempted to flee on foot despite repeated commands to stop, according to the report.FHP said the trooper used his taser to stop Lopez but investigators say he continued resisting. The report says the trooper used his taser for a second time and both him and Lopez went down an embankment.According to the arrest report, Lopez then punched the trooper in the face while troopers tried to take him into custody.Lopez is being charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and and resisting arrest.Additional law enforcement agencies responded to assist in the search for the remaining men who fled the traffic stop, including the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission K-9 unit, the Brevard Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit “STAR,” and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office drone unit.Investigators say the 6 other men who fled were not located.
