Will Key Biscayne’s Police Department land a new marine patrol vessel?
That is just one of the items on Thursday night’s Village Council agenda for the 6:30 p.m. meeting (TV: VKB-TV).
Police Chief Frank Sousa, looking to replace a vessel purchased in 2005, is requesting financial assistance for a new marine patrol boat and trailer, with the final cost to the Village of $204,337 coming out of the FY 2027 Capital Improvement Program match.
A grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) would provide $125,000 toward the $329,337 overall cost.
Also on the agenda will be a full report on the Resilient Infrastructure and Adaptation Program (RIAP) by Village Manager Steve Williamson, as well as a deeper look into the Zone 1 decentralized stormwater plan (as recently approved unanimously by Council) by Public Works Director Chris Miranda.
Later in the evening, Council member Fernando Vazquez wants to check the status of the implementation of the Key Biscayne Strategic Vision Plan and matrix (adopted on May 9, 2023), and he also would like to discuss the alignment between the Administration’s direction and the Council’s policy direction.
Among other agenda items:
• A capital project to ratify an emergency purchase for elevator repairs at the Community Center for $29,990 will be up for vote.
• Another capital project, selecting FSV Construction Company, deals with the Key Biscayne Beach Park renovation project in an amount not to exceed $871,083.
• Building, Zoning & Planning Director Jeremy Calleros Gauger will provide an update on swale management rules and enforcement.
• Marylynne Schwartz, president of Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library, will offer a presentation.
