TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – One woman was arrested and charged with child abuse after allegedly beating a child who had been taken off a school bus for behavior.

According to arrest papers, Arielle Everett arrived on campus to pick up the child after getting a call that he had to be removed from the bus for bad behavior and reportedly beat the child.

Surveillance video showed Everett approaching the child, who “assumed a defensive posture.” Everett reached out to grab the child, who tried to run, before she “took hold of him and appeared to take him down to the concrete sidewalk,” documents say.

While on the ground, Everett appeared to be trying to strike the child.

She was separated from the child by staff, and the child jogged away, arrest papers show.

Police said Everett told them she was angry when she arrived because of the child’s continued behavioral problems at school. She told police that when staff called her about the child’s behavior, she could hear him cursing and yelling at other staff members.

Everett told police she went to grab the child because she knew he would try to run away, and she fell due to a medical condition in her lower legs.

A witness said he watched Everett walk up to the child, who attempted to run, before she brought him to the ground. The witness said Everett seemed to be punching the child. The two were separated by staff, and the witness said the child had an injury to his face.

When police spoke to the child, he had a “slight abrasion on the upper right side of his brow/temple area” and “some swelling and redness within the same area,” arrest papers say.

The child told police he fell and did not mention being hit by Everett.

Everett was arrested and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm.
