The Sanibel Music Festival concluded its 39th season with the Polonsky-Shifrin-Wiley Trio on March 24 at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ on Sanibel. All hailing from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the trio is made up of renowned pianist Ana Polonsky, cellist Peter Wiley and clarinetist David Shifrin. The program featured Beethoven Piano trio in B-flat major, Opus 11, with Polonsky’s virtuosity shining through in the final movement. The Trio for Clarinet, cello and piano by Nino Rota (1911-79), was a playful number in its third movement. After intermission, the group took on the Brahms Trio in A Minor, Op 114. Following a standing ovation, the trio offered a light and happy encore of a famous minuet by Beethoven. The annual festival took place from March 3-24 on select Tuesdays and Saturdays at the church.
