TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Today’s something good is a double military surprise for a Tallahassee family!
After nearly a year apart, the Sanders family reunited at Springwood Elementary.
For Army Reserve member Brianca Sanders, the reunion was a surprise mission 11 months in the making.
More good news:
The visit to Springwood Elementary School on Wednesday was a special surprise for Brianca’s mother, Susie. She’s the dean at the school, and recalls her daughter preparing for Kuwait this time last year.
“At first it was hard, but it got a little bit easier as time went on. And it was a whole village, my sisters chipped in, my brothers, friends and relatives and even her school parents,” Susie Sanders said.
Southwood is also where Brianca’s daughter, Aubrie, goes to school. Aubrie didn’t think this reunion would come until June.
“And then all I know is someone opened my teacher’s door, and my nana was like, and then my mom walked in like this, and I say ‘mommy!’ and then jump on her, but it was exciting,” Aubrie said. “I was a little nervous because everyone was looking.”

While in Kuwait, Brianca relied on her family to look after her daughter.
“I was so happy to see her, and I know they were worried about me, especially with everything going on. So it was super exciting to see family,” Brianca said.
Behind the big reunion was the staff of Springwood Elementary, who had supported the family over the past year.
Brianca says she is thankful for everyone who helped out while she was deployed.
