Friday night lights has a new twist this week, with Orange County public schools playing Thursday games so as to not scare off fans who might pick Halloween over football.

That means the much anticipated Spirit Barrel rivalry game pitting unbeaten Edgewater against unbeaten Boone will play out tonight.

No. 1 Edgewater (9-0) at No. 4 Boone (9-0)

PRE-GAME NOTES:

First time both teams are 9-0 going into the Old Orlando “Spirit Barrel” rivalry since the schools opened simultaneously in 1952 to split what was previously Orlando High School.

Edgewater has won the past seven clashes and leads the all-time series 50-20-2.

Jones, the 5A state runner-up last year, shut the 7A Knights out 14-0 last season and 18-0 in 2021 in their two recent meetings.

The Panthers beat West Orange 8-7 in 2023 and 33-11 last year to up their advantage in the “Battle for the Ole Orange Crate” rivalry to 19-14.

Winter Park won 21-17 last year to make it five in a row over the Titans.
