Video: Man arrested following deadly robbery turned shooting in St. Pete

ST. PETERSUBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested Tuesday after an investigation into a deadly robbery at his home led to the discovery of illegal drugs.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting at the 800 block of 14th Avenue South on April 15 at 11:49 p.m.

Detectives determined that Darren Kegler, 55, was operating a drug house, and that John Knight, 48, and Ronnie Dials, 56, entered the duplex to rob him.

Police said there was an altercation in which Dials and Kegler were shot. Dials died at the scene, and Kegler was treated at the hospital for his injuries.

Knight was arrested on April 17 for first-degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

As the investigation continued, detectives reportedly found one kilo of cocaine in Kegler’s car, 463 grams of cocaine in his second vehicle, and 173.8 grams of cocaine in a container in his kitchen.

Police said he also had a warrant for his arrest from Orlando for conspiracy to traffic cocaine.

Kegler was taken into custody on Tuesday for three counts of trafficking in cocaine.
