A veteran Miami Beach Police officer who was killed in a motorcycle crash earlier this week has been posthumously promoted, the department said Thursday.

Officer David Cajuso was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant by Chief Wayne Jones.

“This symbolic promotion honors Sergeant Cajuso’s dedication, service, and the profound impact he made on the Miami Beach Police Department and the community he faithfully served,” the department said in a statement.

Cajuso lost his life in Tuesday’s crash that happened along Interstate 75.

The 33-year-old was a 10-year veteran of the department and leaves behind a wife and three young children, Jones said.

One of the department’s training motorcycles has been placed outside police headquarters as a tribute to Cajuso.

The department said funeral arrangements were being planned.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash but said no other vehicles were involved.
