Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. is parting with his longtime Central Florida home, listing it on Monday for $27 million.
The Windermere, Florida, megamansion was custom-built for Griffey in 2008. He bought the underlying property in April 2004 during his stint with the Cincinnati Reds for $2.575 million, records with PropertyShark show.
“This listing reflects how much the Windermere market has matured,” said listing agent Llin Lu of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty’s Southwest Orlando office. “When this home was built, the Windermere market looked very different. At that time, fewer than 20% of sales were above $1 million. Today, more than half of the market has moved into that category, and average sale prices have nearly doubled.”
A 13-time All-Star, Griffey, 56, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016. The 10-time Gold Glove center fielder spent most of his major league career with the Seattle Mariners and the Reds and had a short stint with the Chicago White Sox. Since retirement, Griffey has become a credentialed sports photographer, shooting last year’s Masters Tournament and MLB, MLS, NFL and IndyCar events.
Griffey and his wife, Melissa, declined to comment.
The home, which is about 20 miles southwest of Orlando, stands along Cypress Lake with 440 feet of frontage. The private lake is across the road from larger Lake Butler and its chain of 13 lakes that are connected by canals. There’s even a private community boat ramp that gives access to the Butler Chain of Lakes, according to the listing.

Set behind a gated entrance, the three-story Mediterranean-style mansion with tons of Moorish design flair spans more than 22,000 square feet on an 11.5-acre lot. The front door opens into a double-height foyer with dual sweeping staircases that have railings made of custom ironwork.
There are seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, including a primary suite with a fireplace and a bathroom that has two vanities and a whirlpool tub.
Indoor amenities include a theater, a golf simulator, a gym, a wine room and an elevator. Plus, there’s a 10-car garage with two lifts.
There are several terraces off the home’s two main living levels, and outside, there is a pool with a waterslide, diving board and a waterfall along with a basketball court.
