TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas looks to leave his job as he has been announced as a finalist to be the next president of Polk State College.
Polk State is a university in Central Florida, and the school said he’s visiting the campus in a few weeks. This is also when their Board of Trustees will take a final vote for him.
Kamoutsas said Wednesday that the nomination was an honor and he’s grateful.
“No matter the position I serve in, I remain committed to the belief that education is the foundation of opportunity and the key to a stronger future.”
If the position is approved, Kamoutsas would be the third high-ranking state leader to become a Florida college president since the start of last year.
Former Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez now leads Florida International University. Also, former Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. is at the University of West Florida.
