Tampa Bay Rays announce tentative deal for new stadium

  • May 15, 2026

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The Tampa Bay Rays have announced they have reach a tentative agreement with the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County to build a new stadium.

The club reached a nonbinding memorandum of understanding with the county and city that details plans for building a $2.3 billion stadium as part of a mixed-use district on the site of Hillsborough College’s campus in Tampa, across Dale Mabry Highway from Raymond James Stadium and next to the Yankees’ George M. Steinbrenner Field, according to MLB.com.

“We are extremely grateful for the commitment and spirit of partnership demonstrated by all parties throughout this important process and occasion for our community,” the Rays CEO, Ken Babby, said in a statement.

Hillsborough County commissioners and members of the Tampa City Council are expected to vote on the deal next week.

The proposed project includes a partnership with Hillsborough College to redevelop the Dale Mabry campus as part of a mixed-use district anchored by a new home for the Rays.

The Rays say the plan is designed to improve campus facilities, create jobs and internship opportunities for more than 45,000 students.

The surrounding mixed-use development will be privately financed.
