A Jacksonville man was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge after witnesses reported seeing him pointing something and running at cars.
Officers went to the 1200 block of Center Street about 1:20 p.m. Thursday because passers-by were alarmed by the behavior of the shirtless man, according to a police report.
The man was pointing something at passing motorists, but police said it was not a firearm as initial calls suggested.
“He did not have a handgun,” Jacksonville Police Lt. Sean Walker said. “When we found him, he did not have a weapon on him. But he was pointing something at cars.”
Damon M. Gibson, 33, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer.
“He was refusing officers’ commands,” Walker said. “They were making commands to make the arrest safely. He refused to comply with anything they said, so they had to take him down to the ground and struggled with him a little bit.”
Gibson was booked into the Morgan County jail at 2:32 p.m. Thursday and later released under state pre-trial guidelines.
