TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa Bay area mother is giving new moms some relief in the form of a coloring book.
But the book isn’t for kids. It’s for the moms.
Crowned Motherhood founder Alexia McKay said that after having a difficult time giving birth herself, she knew she had to do something.
She has always been a creative person, so she looked at the things that brought her calm, and then she created the coloring book.
It comes with several pictures to color along with affirmations and journaling pages.
For McKay, this is just a small gesture in the big picture of being a mom and all that comes with it.
“I just feel like coloring, at least for me as a writer, coloring and journaling and writing is just really therapeutic and its calming for me,” she said. “And I wanted to share that experience with other moms as someone who experienced post-partum really hard.”
McKay is also the publisher and editor of her own magazine. She plans to create a directory with Black doulas, midwifes and doctors to try and impact the Black maternal health crisis.
Her coloring book is being sold online and at events like the one she’s hosting this weekend.
