A Central Florida family of five is recovering after a head-on crash in Volusia County that killed three others nearly two weeks ago. The crash happened May 4 on State Road 40 near Lake Winona Road in DeLeon Springs. The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver in a Honda CR-V crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the family’s vehicle. The family includes Heather, a coach, and her 14-year-old daughter Jordynn, who plays softball. According to McDaniel, Heather’s husband is facing a long recovery. “He has 20-plus broken bones. He’s had two surgeries and he will require approximately three more before he leaves the hospital,” McDaniel said. The crash has left the family without a car and with mounting medical bills. The local softball community is rallying to help. “By sharing the story, by sharing the GoFundMe, by just saying prayers, every little bit counts. And they’re working. The power of prayer is working because at the end of the day, everybody kind of died in that crash,” McDaniel said. While the children continue healing at home, the family is also thinking of the three people who lost their lives in the crash and their grieving loved ones. “Heather’s big message is that she wants to make sure that the others are not forgotten,” McDaniel said.
