PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (WINK) — The 2026 Home and Hurricane Expo is happening Saturday at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center, giving residents a chance to prepare before the season gets active.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public. It is built around preparedness—giving people a place to find information, ask questions and think through what they would do before, during and after a storm.
For some people, that may mean updating a supply kit. For others, it may mean figuring out evacuation, home protection, pet plans or how to stay connected if power and cell service become unreliable.
The big idea is to take the stress of hurricane season and turn it into steps people can control. Nothing has to be spinning in the Gulf for this to matter—this is about using a quiet Saturday morning to make sure people are not scrambling when the season gets active.
During last week’s Fort Myers Hurricane Expo, attendees emphasized the importance of staying informed.
“I think people need to be aware of some misinformation,” one attendee said. “What they gotta do is pay attention.”
WINK News Weather Authority meteorologist Josh Green explained how quickly a hurricane season can change.
“Whether the preseason forecast calls for ten named storms, 20 or 30, it only takes one in the wrong place to make it an impactful season,” Green said.
Storms create uncertainty. Preparation is one of the few things people can control before they get here.
