The club closed out its regular season on a high note, defeating Fort Lauderdale United FC 4-0 on Saturday night at the Cotton Bowl. Trinity needed a victory to secure the Gainbridge Super League’s fourth and final playoff spot after fifth-placed Spokane Zephyr FC picked up a 4-0 win earlier on Saturday.
With the win over Fort Lauderdale United, Trinity finished the regular season with 40 points. Spokane Zephyr FC finished the campaign with 39 points.
Trinity dominated throughout the first half to take control of Saturday’s regular-season finale. Forward Allie Thornton scored first, sending a low shot past Fort Lauderdale goalkeeper Haley Craig. Just three minutes later, Trinity found the back of the net again as Sealey Strawn made the most of a well-placed pass from Camryn Lancaster.
Trinity maintained its positive momentum in the second half, adding two goals to its tally before the match ended. Strawn scored her second goal at the 69th minute, while Bethany Bos scored the final goal at the 87th minute.
Trinity finished the regular season with an 11-10-7 mark, closing it out on a two-match winning streak. Trinity will be joined in the Gainbridge Super League playoffs by Lexington SC, Sporting JAX and Carolina Ascent FC.
