TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Dozens of families gathered at the North Florida Fairgrounds Saturday for the third annual Public Safety Summer Kickoff hosted by Leon County first responders.
The event featured food, games and activities for children while giving families an opportunity to interact with local public safety agencies in a positive setting.
Tallahassee Fire Chief Gene Sanders said the event helps first responders connect with the community outside of emergencies.
“Public safety departments are not just here to respond during emergencies,” Sanders said. “We’re trying to be mentors, people you can emulate and give back to the youth.”
The event was held in partnership with the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Consolidated Dispatch Agency and Leon County EMS.
