Finally. Potbelly Sandwich Works — known for toasted, made-to-order sandwiches, hand-scooped milkshakes and other scratch-made comfort food — is now open in Jacksonville.
The Chicago-based restaurant chain made its Jacksonville debut on May 15 at 9908 Old Baymeadows Road in the Publix-anchored Deerwood Village shopping center in the 1,566-square-foot space vacated by Subway sandwich shop.
In the works for about two years, the restaurant is the first of seven proposed Potbelly locations in Jacksonville, franchise owner Patrick Prendergast previously told the Times-Union.

The Deerwood Village opening comes as a second Potbelly is planned at 13529 Beach Blvd., Suite 101, in the Hodges Station shopping center in the Intracoastal West area.
The 1,755-square-foot Hodges Station buildout is estimated at $600,000. The status of the Potbelly building permit application — as of May 16 — was listed as “return for corrections,” according to online city records.
Prendergast has said the Hodges Station restaurant would have a drive-thru as an added convenience for customers.
On the menu at Potbelly
“Being born and raised in Chicago, I really wanted to bring some Chicago flavor to Jacksonville,” Prendergast told the Times-Union at the restaurant opening.
Among Potbelly’s popular sandwiches:
A Wreck: Turkey breast, hickory-smoked ham, Angus roast beef, salami and Swiss
Cubano: Slow-cooked pulled pork, hickory-smoked ham, Swiss, deli mustard, pickles
Prime Rib Steak: Tender sliced prime rib steak, Swiss, housemade caramelized onions and garlic aioli. Potbelly signature Hot Peppers are optional
Italian: Salami, old-world capicola, pepperoni, mortadella and provolone
Mama’s Meatball: Homestyle beef and pork meatballs smothered in marinara sauce, provolone and Italian seasoning
Mediterranean: All-natural grilled chicken, feta, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, cucumbers and Potbelly’s signature hot pepper hummus
Pizza Melt: Pepperoni, old-world capicola, crumbled meatball, smothered in marinara sauce, provolone, Italian seasoning and mushrooms (where available)

Established in 1977 in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, Potbelly has at least 450 stores nationwide. With the Jacksonville opening, the chain now has 17 in Florida, according to the chain’s website.
Potbelly in Deerwood Village is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
