Circle K confirmed that seven gas stations in southwest Florida had fuel issues, prompting a temporary suspension of sales at those locations. Now, a spokesperson says they are evaluating car troubles reported by several customers who gassed up.

A spokesperson with Circle K told 10 Tampa Bay News that the following stations were impacted by fuel quality issues:

“At Circle K, we stand behind the quality of our fuels, but issues can sometimes arise. For this particular case, a fuel quality issue from a third-party supplier impacted multiple fuel retailers in the area,” the spokesperson said. “As soon as we became aware of the situation, we suspended fuel sales at these sites while the affected storage tanks were emptied, cleaned and replenished with fresh fuel. We have resumed normal operations following the necessary testing that confirmed full remediation.”

The company did not immediately clarify the dates when the gas stations had issues with fuel.

The spokesperson for Circle K added that after the issues were detected, several customers contacted the company about car troubles after purchasing fuel.

“We are gathering and evaluating their information and helping them with their claims,” the spokesperson added.

A spokesperson with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services told 10 Tampa Bay News that they are aware of the most recent fuel issues at the locations.

“As soon as we were notified, we have been working with Circle K to ensure that the contaminated fuel is replaced and the tanks are cleaned,” the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services spokesperson said.

Back in January, drivers filled up gas at a Circle K in Nokomis and unknowingly pumped diesel fuel into their gasoline-powered cars after diesel was mistakenly delivered to the station’s gasoline storage tank.

Annette Preston was among the drivers affected by the mix-up on Jan. 22. She said her vehicle began making alarming noises shortly after leaving the station.

“It was chugging,” she said. “The whole car was shaking back and forth.”

If you are a customer who experienced any issues after fueling at a Circle K gas station, you can call the company’s claims department at 1-855-276-1947 to get assistance, the spokesperson added.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says consumers experiencing issues after buying fuel at the locations above should file a complaint with the department by calling 1-800-HELP-FLA or by visiting fdacs.gov.
