WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — As Memorial Day weekend approaches, Florida gas prices have begun to decline, providing some relief to nearly 2.6 million residents planning to hit the road.
Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group, noted that “Memorial Day travelers will pay about $17 more than last year to fill an average-sized tank of gas.”
AAA said that last week, the average gas price in Florida fell by 20 cents per gallon, dropping from $4.43 to $4.23.
As of Monday morning, officials reported that Florida’s average gas price is sitting at $4.213.
In comparison, AAA reported that travelers paid an average of $3.06 per gallon during Memorial Day 2025.
However, AAA warned that Florida motorists may see prices spike again early this week due to recent gains in the oil market.
The report states that last week, U.S. oil prices increased by $10 per barrel, reaching $105.42, while gasoline futures also rose by 18 cents per gallon.
