TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee NAACP Youth Council and the Capital City Democratic Women’s Club will host a citywide baccalaureate service to honor graduating seniors across Leon County.
Organizer Jada N. Brown said the event is designed to bring families, students and the community together to celebrate graduates while also providing scholarships and resources to help students transition into their next chapter.
“Whether you’re entering into the military and need help with application fees, or college and you need help with room decor, or books and resources, or the workforce and you need help with uniforms or transportation services back and forth, the citywide baccalaureate program will be the place for you,” Brown said.
Brown said college may not be for everyone, but she believes that regardless of what’s next, each student should feel supported.

“Community members reached out to us to donate to help cover the cost of financial burdens, as well as down payment assistance on apartments or cars,” Brown said
She said the idea for the service came after recognizing the challenges many families face during graduation season.
“I realized it was difficult for families who have students graduating from different schools to celebrate them throughout the week and on the same day,” Brown said.
The service is open to all Leon County students in the Class of 2026 and will take place Saturday, May 30, at 5:30 p.m. at Bethel AME Church. Organizers say students must RSVP by Friday, May 22.
