FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Fort Myers is applying for a $5.04 million Department of Transportation grant to design and construct a roundabout at the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard (State Road 80) and Seaboard Street.

City Council approved the application on May 18 as part of efforts to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and manage traffic at the three-way junction, where vehicles transition to lower speeds in the downtown area.

If awarded, the Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program would apply to the fiscal 2027 budget.

The city would be responsible for providing a 20% match, or $1,260,000, toward the total estimated project cost of $6.3 million.
