Hungry for a hoagie? Wawa just announced three more Florida locations opening in the next few weeks.
A new Pensacola Wawa, coming on May 21, will be the 31st new store out of nearly 100 the company plans to open across 14 states this year. Wawas in Sun Center and Kissimmee are on their way in June, according to the cult-favorite gas station/convenience store’s grand openings page.
If you’re one of the first 100 customers in line, you can score free, limited-edition “Wawa Grand Opening Tour in the USA” t-shirts. If you don’t make it, you can still get free coffee, any size, through the weekend.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because another Wawa opened in Pensacola about a month ago.
Pennsylvania-based Wawa intends to open 20 to 25 new stores in the Florida Panhandle over the next 8-10 years, the company said in a release, with each new location employing an average of 35 associates.
“Wawa is thrilled to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday year with nearly 100 grand opening parties celebrating local communities across Wawa’s operating area!” the company said. “The events are a celebration of the community with the community designed to create joyful moments and meaningful connections with friends and neighbors.”

Free stuff and more, what to expect at a Wawa grand opening
Wawa grand openings are events. The countdown begins at 7:55 a.m., customers are greeted with music, dancing, and confetti, and Wawa associates (aka “Craving Tamers’) will parade by.
Doors open at 8 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., there’s a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Wawa’s signature “Hoagies for Heroes” sandwich-building competition between local fire and police representatives to benefit local charities.
Keep an eye out for Wawa’s mascot, Wally Goose.
What is Wawa?
Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the standard Wawa offers all the things you’d expect from a convenience store (snacks, lottery tickets, drinks, tobacco, gas at most locations, etc.), but they also offer a larger variety of fresh food than most fast-food restaurants, such as their made-to-order, fan-favorite hoagies and the hot breakfast “Sizzli” sandwiches.
Wawas are also famous for customer service, scrupulously clean bathrooms, decent gas prices, free air for your tires, and no-charge ATMs. They’re a comforting presence for travelers and a community hub for neighborhoods.
Some locations have become community hubs and places to hang. People have gotten married at a Wawa. There are songs about it. People get tattoos.
In 2025, Forbes.com ranked Wawa at No. 21 in the list of America’s Largest Private Companies and ranked them at No. 16 for Customer Experience All Stars in 2024 and No. 25 for Most Trusted Companies in America this year. Newsweek ranked Wawa No. 1 for gas stations in 2026.
USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers Choice Awards in 2025 picked Wawa as a runner up for both the Best Gas Station for Food and the Best Gas Station Brand categories. Votoing is still open for this year, and Wawa is in the running again.
Wawa opening stores across Florida
It may be based in Pennsylvania, but there are more Wawa locations in Florida than in any other state, with about 319 as of May 2025, according to data site ScrapeHero.
The first Wawa in Florida opened on July 18, 2012, in Orlando, across from SeaWorld. Last April, Wawa opened its 300th Florida location with a new store in Tallahassee.
Where can I find a Wawa near me?
You can find one near you at the company’s store locator.
