CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Gilbert Chandler sees four-way stops as a danger.
Chandler told WINK News anchor Emma Heaton some of Cape Coral’s four-way stops are long overdue for an upgrade. He asked whether any four-way stops in Cape Coral are being turned into signalized intersections.
“I saw a story where it wasn’t so safe to cross the street at a four-way stop; they were… kids were dodging cars,” Chandler said.
“I think there are a lot of four-way stops that should have been made lights years ago. But, you know, I hate, I hate—I can’t stand these four-way stops,” Chandler said.
WINK News reached out to the city for answers. A spokesperson said the city continuously reviews intersections for potential signalization based on traffic volumes, safety data and engineering studies.
The signal at Santa Barbara Boulevard and Tropicana Parkway East is now fully operational. The city also sent a list of intersections currently under review or consideration.
Similar to other infrastructure projects, timing is dependent on prioritization and available funding.
Chiquita Boulevard and Embers Parkway have a contract awarded and completion expected in December 2026.
Andalusia Boulevard and Diplomat Parkway have construction expected to start in the fall of 2026, pending Lee County’s final review. Chiquita Boulevard and Tropicana Parkway have construction expected to start in 2027.
Andalusia Boulevard and Kismet Parkway has 60% of the design complete as part of the Andalusia Boulevard Extension Project. Construction is expected to start in 2027.
Pondella Road and Northeast 25th Avenue/Hancock Creek South Boulevard have proposed funding to be set in 2027.
