The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect for manslaughter after a man was found mauled by dogs on Ricker Road in 2024.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Nearly two years after a man was found dead in the McGirts Creek area, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the case.
In the early morning hours of August 31, 2024, JSO officers reported that a man was found dead on the side of Ricker Road. Police later determined that the victim, identified as 59-year-old Ronald Coffman, had died after being bitten by dogs multiple times.
Melvyn Souffrount, 62, was arrested Monday for manslaughter in connection with Coffman’s death and booked into the Duval County jail, where he remained Tuesday.
In the course of the lengthy investigation, the sheriff’s office said it determined that Souffrount was at fault due to “multiple and repeated negligent actions,” but did not specify what they were.
First Coast News has requested a copy of the arrest warrant and the incident report to better understand the circumstances.
