South Florida locals and football journeyers alike will have plenty to keep them busy—and dancing—this summer with Rhythm of the Cup, a World Cup-inspired event series corresponding with the arrival of the world’s marquee sporting event in Miami.
The series, produced by GMP Live and Dayglo Presents, will take place at the Miami Beach Bandshell between June 20th and July 17th and feature headlining performances by Chromeo, Thievery Corporation, High Fade, and Poolside, plus additional family-friendly programming and live match watch parties.
On Tuesday, June 23rd, Scottish trio High Fade will bring its distinctive blend of funk, punk, and disco to the Miami Beach Bandshell the night before their home country’s match against Brazil. On Friday, June 26th, trip-hop pioneers Thievery Corporation will return to the Bandshell for their third year in a row, followed by nu-disco sensations Poolside on Friday, July 10th. Then, on Friday, July 17th, Grammy-nominated Canadian duo Chromeo will round out the Rhythm of the Cup programming with distinctive electro-funk flair.
The Rhythm of the Cup series extends well beyond its roster of headliners. On Saturday, June 20th, the series will kick off with The Rock and Roll Playhouse Presents: The Music of Bad Bunny, a family concert experience produced by Peter Shapiro of Dayglo’s Rock and Roll Playhouse, which stages family-friendly music events at venues across the country. Local musicians will perform selections from a Miami parent favorite, Bad Bunny, in a setting built entirely around children featuring games, toys, a rainbow parachute, and audience and performer interactions.
Also woven throughout the schedule are four World Cup watch parties at the Bandshell, offering fans and locals who may not have tickets to Hard Rock Stadium the opportunity to experience “the most beautiful game” in a communal environment at an equally iconic Miami venue. Watch parties at the Bandshell include June 22nd’s Argentina vs. Austria match and June 24th’s Scotland vs. Brazil match, plus both semifinal matches on July 14th and 15th, respectively.
“The World Cup is such a special and global event,” said GMP Live founder and head of programming Gideon Plotnicki, “and Miami, and specifically the historic Miami Beach Bandshell, feels like it was built to be a part of it. We’re excited to showcase a mix of incredible live bands that all feel at home in Miami, family-friendly programming, and several watch parties that we think will appeal to locals and tourists alike. Come to Miami Beach Bandshell this Summer and experience the Rhythm of the Cup!”
