Alex Patricio, charged with murder in a 2024 Jacksonville shooting, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, receiving a 20-year sentence, court officials report.

JACKSONVILLE, Texas — One of three people charged in connection with a 2024 Jacksonville shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy pleaded guilty. 

Alex Patricio, who was 18 around the time of the shooting, accepted a plea deal in the 2nd District Court on Monday. Patricio, who was charged with murder, pleaded down to the less charge of manslaughter. 

Court officials say he was then sentenced to 20 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence for a second-degree felony like manslaughter.

On April 1, 2024, Daniel V. Benitez, 15, of Bullard, was killed and his brother Jesus V. Benitez, 17, was injured in the shooting in the 2000 block of S. Jackson St. Patricio, Octavio Abundes and a 15-year-old were all charged with murder in connection with the shooting. 

Abundes’ charges remain pending and he has a hearing scheduled in June.
