A woman was rushed to the hospital after she was stabbed in the face with a pen during an apparent random attack in downtown Miami on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident happened in the area of Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 8th Street, not far from Kaseya Center.
Miami Fire Rescue officials said a woman was transported to a local hospital from the scene with a stab wound to her face.
“Her face is just coated with blood, it looked like studio makeup,” witness Asher Shafer said. “It was terrifying, at first I though it was a dog attack, and I was wondering if there was a loose dog wandering around.”
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed multiple officers surrounding and speaking with a man outside a nearby CVS.

Miami Police officials said they believe the man is the stabbing suspect and that it appears to be a random attack, adding that the victim was stabbed with a pen.
“It does appear to have been a random incident at this time,” Miami Police spokeswoman Kiara Delva said. “That woman suffered serious lacerations, she was transported to the hospital.”
Shafer said it appeared the woman was walking her dog when she was attacked in broad daylight.
“From the looks of it, yeah, she had her dog with her while she was getting taken care of, getting the blood taken off her face,” Shafer said.
The suspect was ranting and in distress so officers worked to de-escalate the situation so he wouldn’t harm himself of anyone else, officials said.
Police said after three hours of negotiations, the man was taken into custody. Cell phone video showed a Taser being deployed to knock him to the ground.
The man, identified as 49-year-old Raydean Johnson, has a long criminal history including a record of being combative with officers, officials added.
It’s unknown what charges Johnson may face.
