TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Above-normal temperatures are expected each day through the next week, with daily chances for thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon and evening.
The setup stays pretty classic for this time of year. High pressure remains off the Southeast coast, keeping an easterly breeze across Tampa Bay. That wind pattern helps push storms toward the west coast later in the day, so the best rain chances will likely come during the late afternoon and evening.
Any storms that develop this evening will drift toward the Gulf and fade after sunset. Overnight looks mainly dry and quiet, with a warm and muggy start again Wednesday morning.
Wednesday and Thursday bring a slightly weaker easterly flow, which should allow the west coast sea breeze to move farther inland. That means scattered storms will be possible from inland west central Florida down into southwest Florida, especially later in the day.
The pattern does not change much heading into the weekend and early next week. Upper-level ridging builds over Florida, keeping the heat in place, while enough moisture remains around for scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms each day.
Even with daily storm chances, severe to extreme drought conditions continue for much of the area. Rain will be helpful where storms develop, but the coverage will be scattered, meaning some neighborhoods could get a good downpour while others stay mostly dry.
