Tense encounters between airline passengers have become more frequent recently, to the point that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported a 400% increase in in-flight outbursts since 2019. This increase led the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to encourage travelers to “bring back civility” at the end of last year and follow airport rules more closely. However, incidents of disruptive, rule-breaking behavior continue to make headlines across the country.
A recent example occurred at Tallahassee International Airport in Florida. Police responded to reports of a passenger attempting to board a flight without a boarding pass. But once they arrived at the scene, what initially started as confusion over a ticketing issue escalated into a confrontation many viewers say was both frustrating to watch and deserving of praise for the officers involved. Surprisingly, this is not the first time a traveler has tried to board a flight without proper documents.
Passenger Tries To Board Flight Without A Ticket At Tallahassee International Airport
During the January incident, airport staff reported that a passenger had attempted to board a flight without a valid boarding pass.
Bodycam footage shows officers approaching the woman inside the terminal and asking questions about what happened. The passenger insists she already had a ticket for a later flight that same day, but was unable to change it on the airline’s app.
While waiting for the airport officials to decide how they want the police to handle the situation, the passenger stands up to try and leave the terminal. Officers explain to her that she is not allowed to leave during the investigation and that refusing to cooperate could escalate things.
“We don’t know what happened. They said you tried to get on the plane, and you didn’t have a ticket. Is that a big deal? It can be, but we don’t want it to be,” one of the officers said.
Police then spoke to an airport staff member to get an account of what happened.
“I had the door open. I was finishing boarding, and she went [to the door]. I said ‘I need your boarding pass.’ She didn’t show me anything. … She said, ‘I’m on the later flight. I want to get on this one,'” the staff member said.
The staff member then says that after being told she couldn’t board the flight, she sat down, then tried to sneak past him to enter the jet bridge anyway.
After reviewing CCTV footage and receiving verbal accounts of the incident, police ask the woman for her identification, to which she says, “I’m not going to give that to you because I cannot trust you.”
After several minutes of back-and-forth, the passenger tries to walk away from the scene again. At that point, the police handcuff and escort her to their cruiser.
Viewers Online Applauded The Airport For Its Response

After the bodycam footage began circulating online, many viewers praised the way airport police handled the situation — noting that officers remained calm and patient despite the passenger’s refusal to cooperate.
“Those cops treat her with great respect, but she doesn’t understand what respect means at all.”
“She’s not completely coherent. She’s either mentally ill [or] under the influence. I’m glad the officers were polite and non-aggressive.”
Commenters also heavily criticized the passenger, saying that she deserved to be arrested for breaking the law. Many also said she knowingly attempted to bypass airline and airport rules as part of a scam.
“She was trying to get a free trip, and she knew exactly what she was doing.”
“She knew exactly what she was doing. She tried to scam her way onto an earlier flight and got caught. Now she’s trying to worm her way out of it and not face any consequences.”
“This woman is full of crap. She’s obstructing, failure to ID, tried to illegally board, and got caught, and is now lying about literally everything she did. Bye-Bye!”
“She’s an idiot who feels entitled to do whatever she wants. She broke the law; arrest was inevitable and all her fault.”
While this incident may seem unusual, it’s not the first time a passenger has attempted to board a flight without proper documents.
This Is Not The First Time A Traveler Has Tried To Fly Without A Ticket
One of the most shocking recent cases of unauthorized passengers on planes involved a woman who managed to board multiple international flights without a ticket.
The Svetlana Dali Cases
In February, a woman named Svetlana Dali was detained in Milan, Italy, after sneaking onto a flight departing from Newark Liberty International Airport. According to CNN, the aircraft departed with hundreds of passengers onboard before crew reportedly realized that she was not supposed to be on the flight.

The Milan incident followed a similar one in 2024, when Dali boarded a Delta Air Lines flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport without a boarding pass. Both cases led many travelers online to wonder how she got past TSA officers and gate staff.
One Reddit user suggested that Dali may have avoided drawing attention simply by blending in, writing, “Middle-aged women and older (especially of the local ethnicity) are pretty much invisible. It’s a dubious superpower, being masterfully unremarkable and non-threatening.”
Surveillance footage released after Dali’s arrest shows her slipping past an airport employee who was overseeing a crew security checkpoint. Investigators say she later blended in with a family boarding the flight, which helped her get through the gate area.
