Opening statements begin in trial of two men accused in Half Time Liquor shooting

  • May 20, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Opening statements began in a trial of two men accused in a shocking shoot-out outside a Tallahassee liquor store.

Joseph Walker and Tamylon Williams are accused in a deadly shooting Half Time Liquors back in October 2022.

Eight people were shot that night and one man, Demario Murray, was killed.

Walker and Williams are two of the four men facing charges.

Both men are facing murder, attempted murder and weapons charges.

Attorneys laid out arguments on Tuesday, with State Attorney Jack Campbell citing evidence that will be shown in testimony, like security camera footage showing Williams firing a gun at the scene.

Campbell also said shell casings found at the scene matched a gun found in Walker’s possession and had his DNA on it.

“A group of people decided they didn’t want to have a party, the wanted to have a gun fight,” Campbell said.

Williams’s attorney, Armando Garcia, claims self-defense, saying that Williams was afraid for his life.

“Not only that his life was being threatened, that he may suffer great bodily harm, You will not see any evidence that Tamylon Williams fired the first shot,” Garcia said.

Tuesday’s testimony saw several witnesses take the stand, including a woman who was shot in the leg during the shooting describing her experience.

“I ducked and got completely on the ground almost under the car,” she said. “I got up and I was already shot.”

A Tallahassee Police Officer who responded to the scene also took the stand to talk about the initial chaos after the incident.

The trial is expected to last the rest of the week.
