As the NBA offseason approaches, Orlando is expected to become one of the more interesting teams to watch after moving on from head coach Jamahl Mosley.

During a recent episode of Inside the NBA, O’Neal reacted to Kidd being fired by the Dallas Mavericks and shared why he believes the former NBA champion coach could fit well in Orlando.

“Whoever they pick, hopefully the new coach can take them to that next level,” O’Neal said. Shaq then brought up Kidd as a possible option for the Magic. “But I wouldn’t mind seeing Jason Kidd for that Orlando job”.

The idea could make sense for a young Orlando roster that already built its identity around defense during the 2025-26 season.

The Magic developed into one of the better defensive teams in the league, and Kidd has built his coaching reputation on toughness, defensive structure, and playoff adjustments.

After Mosley helped rebuild stability inside the organization, Orlando now faces pressure to become a real contender in the Eastern Conference.

Kidd has plenty of experience coaching young stars and playoff teams. He started his NBA head coaching career with the Brooklyn Nets before leading the Milwaukee Bucks to multiple postseason appearances with Giannis Antetokounmpo emerging as the face of the franchise.

Later, Kidd returned to Dallas and helped guide the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals. Even though his run with the Mavericks ended after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, Kidd is still viewed around the league as a coach capable of handling playoff pressure and star players.
