Cape Coral ranked fifth among major U.S. metro areas for foreclosure rates in April, with one filing for every 1,628 housing units, according to ATTOM, a real estate data and analytics firm. The highest metro foreclosure rates were in Lakeland, with one filing for every 1,221 housing units; Columbia, South Carolina, one in every 1,287; Charleston, South Carolina, one in every 1,483; and Bakersfield, California, one in every 1,566. Nationally, 42,430 properties had foreclosure filings in April, up 18% from a year ago. Florida ranked third among states, behind Delaware and South Carolina.
