HAMDEN, Conn. (WFSB) – A Florida fugitive wanted on felony charges is in custody after Hamden police tracked him down in their town.
In April, the Hamden Police Department received information from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that Steven Medina had fled Florida and was believed to be living in Hamden. Medina was wanted on two active full extradition warrants for burglary and grand theft in the third degree.
Hamden detectives investigated and confirmed Medina’s location within the town. They obtained a search and seizure warrant for his arrest.
Police assembled a team that included the Emergency Services Unit, Intelligence Unit, Patrol Division, Hostage Negotiators and Crime Deterrent Unit. Officers executed the warrant using a surround-and-call-out tactic.
Medina came out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
He is being held pending extradition proceedings to Florida, where he will face the charges.
Medina is 29 years old.
