TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A grocery store and farmers market is coming to Florida’s capital city, adding new organic and gluten-free food options for the community.
Sprouts Farmers Market, a national grocery chain with fresh and organic products, is reportedly planning a location at Lafayette Place at 3111 Mahan Drive, a shopping center in the capital city. The news was first shared on Wednesday by Urban Tallahassee, a local Facebook group, which reported the store is expected to move into the former Big Lots space.
Ed Murray, NAI Principal, President, Broker of NAI Talcor Commercial Real Estate & Property Management, confirmed that a Sprouts is expected to be built at Lafayette Place.
The Lafayette Place shopping center currently houses a YoutFit gym, Kyoto Japanese cuisine, a Goodwill, Wingstop, Hungry Howie’s and others.
Sprouts Farmers Market was founded in 2002 in Phoenix, Arizona, and now operates about 410 stores nationwide, according to the company’s website. In Florida, Sprouts has 63 locations, including stores in Ocala, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Naples and Tampa.

The company says its stores feature an open layout with fresh produce at the center, reflecting its “farmstand heritage.”
Tallahassee also has an established local option for fresh foods through the Southside Farmers Market, which began in 2018 and offers fruits, vegetables, eggs and seafood from local farmers, according to the City of Tallahassee.
