Three men are behind bars, facing charges in connection to a deadly 2025 Jacksonville shooting, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.
Da-Vonne Mitchell, 26, faces a second-degree murder charge, as well as attempted second-degree murder. JSO says he shot two men, killing one of them and injuring the other on Dec. 10, 2025.
Anthony Brooks Jr., 26, and Tyquan Thompson, 29, also face charges in connection to the shooting. Police charged Brooks with two counts of accessory after the fact, and Thompson with one count of accessory after the fact.
On Dec. 10, 2025, JSO said patrol officers responded to a parking lot on Edgewood Avenue North after dispatchers received reports that someone had been shot. When officers arrived, JSO said they found two men with gunshot wounds.
Paramedics then took the two to a local hospital, but one of the men, identified as 49-year-old Cory Denmark, died from his injuries. The other man reportedly survived.
After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the scene, JSO said detectives identified Mitchell as the gunman. His arrest report states that multiple witness told police the shooting happened as a response to Denmark intervening in a robbery earlier in the day.
“We will continue to work to bring justice to Denmark’s loved ones as Mitchell, Thompson, and Brooks face the legal system,” JSO told First Coast News.
