‘Road rage’ attack erupts near Orlando International Airport, officer says

ORLANDO, Fla. – A “road rage” attack was reported near the Orlando International Airport last month, leading to an arrest on Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

In an arrest warrant affidavit, deputies said the incident happened on the morning of April 12, northbound along Jeff Fuqua Boulevard heading away from the airport.

During the incident, a car tried to run the victim’s vehicle off the road, but when the victim instead pulled over onto the shoulder, the other driver got out and approached, the affidavit shows.

“As (the victim) attempted to exit his vehicle, the suspect pushed his driver’s door, knocking him backwards,” the affidavit reads. “The suspect then reached into (the victim’s) vehicle, grabbed his sunglasses and wallet from within his vehicle, and threw them towards a nearby retention pond.”

Afterward, the suspect — later identified as Jerome Wilson, 44 — punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground before leaving the scene, deputies wrote.

However, investigators said they were able to track Wilson down a few days later, though he claimed that the other driver had pulled up beside him, began cussing and tried to run him off the road.

That said, Wilson denied punching the victim, and he also declined coming back to the airport to provide a written statement, instead saying, “No, I’m good.”

Meanwhile, the victim reported that his teeth had become displaced due to Wilson punching him in the face, deputies added.

“The dentist had to shave his teeth due to the injury causing permanent disfigurement,” the affidavit continues.

As such, Wilson was booked on Wednesday and now faces charges of burglary of an occupied conveyance; petit theft; battery; and aggravated battery with permanent disfigurement.
