Tampa’s craft beer scene continues to downsize as Tampa Bay Brewing Company’s Ybor taproom plans to shutter after service on Sunday, May 31.
Leader of operations David Doble announced the news via the brewery’s Facebook page on May 16.
“The time has come for us to reluctantly turn the page and close this chapter of our history,” Doble said.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to our employees, our customers, and obviously this incredible community for years of support. We are truly grateful for your patronage.”
The spot was established in 1995 in Ybor as a brewpub and home brew supply store. The brewery grew to two taprooms over the years, with a Westchase location opening in 2015. That location will remain open.
Reef Donkey, a dry-hopped American pale ale; Coral Head, an India pale ale; and Old Elephant Foot, a West Coast-style India pale ale are the brewery’s core beers.
Data shows the national demand for and production of craft beer has declined over the past couple of years, according to a non-profit trade group representing America’s breweries.
Total craft production fell 5% in 2025, according to the association’s annual report. The report also found a 2.5% net decline in operating brewpubs from 2024-2025.
Seminole Heights’ Angry Chair Brewing Company is currently up for sale with a $3 million price tag, which includes everything but the property.
In March, Cigar City Brewing Company announced plans to move operations from its original Spruce Street location to Ybor City. Beer is still pouring at the Spruce Street taproom, but the kitchen closed earlier this year. No date has been announced on when the brewery will move to Ybor.
