Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, who’s out of contract at the end of the year, is set to leave Orlando City, the team announced on Friday. That same year, Gallese won the MLS Save of the Year award. Gallese’s departure from Orlando follows a disappointing end to the 2025 season, which saw the Lions secure one win in their final 10 games across all competitions. Orlando lost in the Wild Card game on Oct. 22, marking an early exit from the 2025 MLS playoffs after reaching the Eastern Conference final in 2024. Orlando City general manager and sporting director Ricardo Moreira will now be tasked with searching for a new starting goalkeeper; however, that’s only if the team decides to pivot and promote homegrown Javier Otero to that role and promote Carlos Mercado as the club’s No. 2 choice. And that’s one of several decisions Orlando City will have to make heading into the offseason. Cesar Araujo, Wilder Cartagena, and Kyle Smith are also out of contract at the end of the year. The team will also have to decide whether to exercise the 2026 options for the following players: Martin Ojeda, Ivan Angulo, Eduard Atuesta, Alex Freeman, Robin Jansson, Carlos Mercado, Rodrigo Schlegel, and Tyrese Spicer. Orlando also has two first-round picks and a second-round pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, providing another mechanism to readjust its roster. The draft is scheduled for Dec. 18.
